Table Manners: Please Pass the Pig!

Play Pass the Pig: A pig resides on the shelf near the table. If everyone eats politely then the pig stays on the shelf. If someone is caught chewing with their mouth open, talking with food in their mouth, standing up or not sitting up straight, putting their elbows on the table, using their shirt as a napkinā¦or whatever other manners have been deemed unsuitable for the dinner table then they are given the pig. They have to try to get rid of the pig before dinner is over.- Manners Bingo: Use manners bingo cards to play Manners Bingo. If someone is caught doing a great job following one of the manners then they get to put an "x" on that square. The first one to bingo wins.
- Dinnertime Discussion Questions: Use conversation starters to promote dinner time discussions. Cut the discussion questions apart and put them in a jar. Draw a discussion question at the beginning of dinner. At the top of each card is a table manner. Give extra attention to following that manner during the discussion.
- Manners Lesson: Use Uncommon Courtesy for Kids to make a lesson on table manners. It teaches 6 rules of etiquette and has a cleaver cartoon poster to color. At the end role play to practice what's been learned.
- Posh table settings: Make the table look and feel like it is a special occasion. Put food in nice serving dishes instead of serving out of the pan or tupperware. Set the table properly and add festive decorations and a nice table cloth and napkin rings. Show by example and by preparing the environment what dinner manners are expected.

The pass the pig game sounds fun.
how do you get rid of the pig?
To get rid of the pig you have to catch someone else not minding his manners. So use your best manners or you might get stuck with it!
