Angela, what a great list! We really enjoy the Childhood of Famous Americans series. It's funny, we just read Charles Dickens: The Man Who Had Great Expectations in kidschool this morning! Last month we read A Christmas Carol, so it was neat for the kids (and me) to read about the author's life. I found the book very inspiring. So many of the great authors, I am finding, are great because of, not simply in spite of their trials and hardships. It makes me appreciate the refining experiences in life.
